Laurita Winery is hosting its third “Laurita Winery Idol Contest”. We are looking for talented singers and instrumentalists and the three winners will receive exciting prizes. Auditions are open to anyone over 18 years of age. Any solo performer, either vocalist or instrumentalist, is welcome to audition and may be accompanied by a single back up musician. During the open auditions, each contestant will perform one song/piece. Auditions will be held on April 7, 14 and 21 with semi-finals beginning on April 28. It is time for our annual Riesling Bench Trials. This year’s Riesling is great, but the winemakers want your help in determining how sweet to make it. So, come in taste our samples and vote for your favorite. We will publish our results on Facebook so you can see if your choice makes the final bottling.

This weekend we celebrate Earth Day on Friday and Easter on Sunday. Both days celebrate life. Sharrott Winery really is a place where we try to live in harmony with nature. All weekend we will be giving tours that include our solar panels that power the winery and explain the passive heating and cooling that is built into our buildings. On Easter Sunday we will also have flowers for the ladies and treats for the kids.

May Day marks the end of the unfarmable winter half of the year in the Northern hemisphere, and it has traditionally been an occasion for popular and often raucous celebrations. Our celebration of the farmable part of the year will be a winemaker-guided tour of the vineyard to show how our vines are waking up and enjoying spring. We will taste some wines in the vineyard made from the vine we will be touring. Our normal tasting fee of $5 will apply for the tours.
